The team qualified for the All Ireland stages following brilliant performances in the Ulster blitz held in Belfast.  Goalkeeper Megan Mc Dermott, defenders Louise Mc Closkey, Orlagh Mc Laughlin, Aiveen Mc Cormick, midfields Caoimhe Lynch and Caoimhe Moore and in attack Leanne Hasson, Orlaith Mullan, Aine Crossan and Niamh Mullan all contributed to the victory showing exceptional skill and determination. They defeated St. Paul’s College Kilrea, St. Louis Ballymena, St. Dominic’s and St. Louise’s Belfast in the group section to qualify for the Ulster final.

With confidence high the girls knew that one more victory was required if the were to achieve their goal of qualification for the All Ireland series. Having lost the toss to St. Mc Nissi’s Garrontower they were forced to play against a significant breeze in the first half. Despite heroic performances from the defensive trio they went in at the break 9 points down.

The team now knew that the first score of the second half was essential. Having gained possession from the throw in, C Lynch played a long ball to the full forward line and O. Mullan lashed the ball to the net.  Garrontower responded with some pressure resulting in a point blank save from M. Mc Dermott. Her clearance found Caoimhe Lynch who ran 40 yards to add another goal. A pointed free from O. Mullan left the girls 2 pts down with one minute remaining. From the puck out Caoimhe Moore, despite injury, gained possession and launched the ball to the full forward line. The youthful A. Crosan and N. Mullan managed to find Orlaith in the left corner and she forced home the winning goal. The referee’s whistle sounded and St Patrick’s were Ulster champions!
