The U16 camogie team from St Patrick’s College Dungiven travelled to Dublin to represent Ulster in the All Ireland 7’s series.

Played in ideal conditions in Blanchardstown Dublin. The grls had to compete with their counterparts from Munster, Leinster and Connaught.

The day started with a defeat at the hands of the slick St. Flammin’s College in Ennis despite the heroic efforts of girls. The team now knew that victory was essential in the remaining two games if they were to qualify for the final.

Presentation College Kilkenny were the next hurdle. All 10 members of the panel played their part in a pulsating game. The shot stopping from M. Mc Dermott in goals, long clearances from A. Mc Cormick and C. Moore to the sharp shooters C. Lynch and O. Mullan in attack were the foundations for the teams victory by a single point.

Gort Community School from Galway now provided the challenge for the girls. Captain L. Mc Closkey and O Mc Laughlin led the line with tireless running and support for the youthful A. Crossan and N. Mullan in midfield.  The attack led by L. Hasson and O. Mullan outscored the opposition by 5 points.

This result meant they had qualified for the final. Despite the never say die efforts from the team and the vocal support from supporters the girls were beaten again by St. Flammins from Ennis. Final score St. Patrick’s 2.6 St Flammins 5.6.

The entire school is extremely proud of the girls and their excellent performances throughout the competition.
